„Get out of the comfort zone“
Rolf talked about victimhood in his last podcast and gave you tips how to make your choice for your personal role as human being and how others may perceive you as a result thereof.
Today’s topic “get out of the comfort zone” directly follows up because it’s again a matter of personal responsibility and decision. But let me ask you first: What is a comfort zone and do you know yours? Be sure that I am not only thinking of your sofa and your living space, but also the kind of your beliefs.
Comfort zone is there where you feel comfortable and safe. How nice and easy is it to simply stay there where you are. Leaving this comfort zone means overcoming that costs you an effort, since “outside” the unknown is waiting, something that you may have never done or thought challenging you. Getting started means that you make the first step. What could you be a helpful mindset so that you feel motivated?
If you want to personally grow it is good to expand your comfort zone. For example you could decide – with summertime in mind – to get up earlier each morning. This time is reserved for you and you have the free choice of “I am going to meditate”, “I’m practicing yoga”, “I go for a walk“ or “I am writing my book“ and so on. In the beginning it may feel strange, you may get up rather tired and think “what the hell I’m doing here”, you may have doubts or had a late night…
Here’s my tip: What about a cold shower in the morning? OK, in the first moment I am also chattering my teeth and shivering, but a friend of mine has taken a cold shower since long and has lived very well with this routine. It is obvious that you can get used to cold, and each time it becomes easier because it strengthens your mental and physical health refreshing you so that you are wide awake. Then you have already got into your growth zone and you’ve successfully expanded your comfort zone.
Please note: Do not exaggerate, too many challenges at the same time are counterproductive. Set your reasonable sub-goals and stand by yourself, what you do for yourself and take the responsibility for your personal development. Considering that small steps need to be made on the road to success provided that you are able to control your expectations. If you act against resistance, you may produce even more resistance – by the way, Rolf will give you the opportunity next week to reflect on this topic…
Taking warm showers was yesterday. Have fun in exploring new zones!
