Failing successfully, that was the topic brought to you by Dagmar last week and Dagmar gave you some impulses. One form of failure can be misunderstanding.
Welcome to the Emotional Connectivity Podcast from the Talent Management Academy.
What is it about understanding anyway? One person says something. And the other understands something. Who actually guarantees us that it’s the same thing?
With simple things it works quite well, the mutual understanding and it is sufficiently good enough, something like apple, chair, house, tree, something like that.
Yes, there the idea of what you are talking about is sufficiently good enough that you understand each other. What about words like communication, teamwork, flexibility or leadership?
These words are called normalization or non-specific nouns.
Let me give you an example. Order and cleanliness are the basics of this institute.
What order exactly, whose order?
What exactly does order mean to you or to me? And the same for cleanliness.
Or something like you need to get better at communication. Feedback, conversation is great. I then go out there and actually don’t know exactly what to do.
Ask who then? So. What exactly do I need to improve in communication then?
And that’s exactly how it works. These words are to be questioned like, how exactly, what exactly or by what would I recognize then that more explanation of that the sends? To avoid misunderstandings, it needs then both sides.
The speaker who is aware and explains more what he means and or the listener who asks more, what exactly is meant. Observe how this is when you talk to others.
And I wish you a lot of fun in the outside world.
